Studio West Bronze Foundry & Gallery was founded in Cochrane in 1970 and has been home to internationally-renowned sculptors and artists.


Don and Shirley Begg are third generation Albertans and descendants of pioneers, who have been sculpting as a team for 40 years.

Artists in their own right, they have received international recognition for their lifelike, meticulously detailed bronze sculptures. Since 1970, the Beggs have owned and operated the award winning Studio West Ltd. Foundry and Gallery in Cochrane, Alberta, providing complete sculpture services from miniature to monumental, including armature construction, enlargements, lost-wax bronze casting, through to transfer and safe secure installation on-site. The foundry occupies 16,000 sq ft and includes double three-ton overhead bridge cranes as well as a fully-equipped enlarging facility.

Don and Shirley, together with their highly trained foundry technicians, have cast and finished more than 180 public statues for international artists for placement worldwide including: the National Capitol in Ottawa, the Provincial Legislatures of Alberta and Saskatchewan, museums, libraries, airports, schools, parks, hospitals, and war memorials. Their work has spanned North America – from Sechelt, BC to Gagetown, NB, and from Tuktoyaktuyk, NWT to Florida, as well as installations in both France and Germany. They have received international recognition and awards for excellence in their profession, both for sculpture and for bronze casting.
