Janice Filmon was asked, and accepted the position as Founding Chair for the Nellie McClung Foundation. She and Myrna Driedger together assembled an exemplary team of women and men in order to tackle the challenges of legally establishing the foundation, commissioning the artist and foundry, reviewing and selecting monument concepts, fundraising and capital management, branding and communications, media and government relations, and finally, site development, landscaping and engineering. In addition to this, the organization’s secondary mandate of education required teaching, research and subject matter expertise, and relationships with leading women’s and human rights organizations.
