January 28, 2015 is the 100th Anniversary of the Mock Parliament – held in Winnipeg at the Walker Theatre in 1914.
The satirical play was performed by the Political Equality League, who reversed the role of men and women, and featured Nellie McClung in the role of MB’s premier.
It completely won over public sentiment, and the following January MB’s women were granted the right to vote in provincial elections. We were the first in the entire British Commonwealth to receive this right.
Here’s a great video highlighting the event, and showcasing Nellie McClung’s role.
